You're very confused I'm sure, since you most likely saw the title, then the tree. haha.
We were given a project in art class, called "autobiography". I think this resembles me alot know why? know why!?
the balloons each have a word written on them, and because this is a installation piece, and *not* a photography piece you can't see them in the photo. Each word describes somthing about me, or is a part of me, or just has meaning to me.
Each baloon is tied to the tree, so it doesn't float away. As a person I am very overthe top and I need to be restrained somtimes to remained grounded. (wink, get it? )
Also there is *alot* to me and I am very open about shit. Each branch is a part of me, trees are in the open and everyone knows them and such.
and THAT is why, my autobiography is a tree with balloons.
*note* here are the words on the baloons.
- Love
- Insecurity
- Fly
- Dream
- Expression
- Family
- Music
- Faults
- Fear
- Loyalty
- distorion
- friendship
- Envy
It took me way too long to finally comment on this.
I love it. I see a lot in it. And I see that it hasn't gotten nearly the amount of attention that it deserves.
There's something sort of melancholy about the whole thing. Balloons are something that one would usually associate with happiness, but it's mosly kind of a fake happiness, just for show. What happens when the party is over? They become obsolete. So they kind of droop until someone needs them to look happy again.
Technically speaking, the photo is absolutely brilliant. The background glows nicely but it's dark enough to make the balloons really stand out. I have to compliment you for choosing white balloons, too. I can see where it would be tempting to use black balloons for this subject, but that really wouldn't have worked at all. This is great. The only thing I don't like about the composition is the well-lit area in the bottom right, on the grass. I'd like it better if it were shadowed like the rest of the ground in the shot. But that's only minor and it's not something you could really change. I didn't even notice that until after I looked at the image for a good 15 minutes or so, anyway.
Brilliant work, Tamsin. You and I both need to get back into photography again. You're really talented, and you're just getting better every time you take a photo.
i definetly love the symbolism and meaning behind this photo and i'm really glad you took the time to explain it. too many people leave it to the viewer's imagination, and i think that takes away from the personal meaning of the piece.
once again, really great!
